Jesus teaches us to put money, possessions and worldly success in its proper place. While acknowledging their contribution to human life, he warns about letting them rule us. He tells us that our Father knows our needs and has provided enough resources to meet them. We should focus our efforts and time on the things that really matter, the things that last beyond the short span of life on earth. Then our attitude to worldly things will alter.
He stresses the importance of living for the present moment, which is all any of us can be absolutely sure of. The past is gone and it is in this ‘now’ that we are able to grow, slowly abandoning dependence on things that do not last and ridding ourselves of fears and anxieties for the future.
